Renowned vocalist, Rajendra Kandalgaonkar's America tour was organized by 'Learn Quest' of Boston in the second week of May 2005 and was concluded with the performance in the conference of Brihan Maharashtra Mandal of Atlanta.
His performances at different cities in the USA included hindustani classical 'khayal' concerts, 'Natya-Sangeet' and 'Abhang'. He presented the best of compositions (Bandish) from Kirana gharana (Kirana style of rendering) with vigor and vitality. Along with excellent rendering of Kirana style, he presented the series of Aalap (improvization) with full preparation, receiving tremendous applause from the audience and creating a permanent niche in their hearts.
He was accompanied on harmonium by Shri Rajiv Tambe and on Tabla by Nikhil Phatak. In the first week of July 2005, the conference organized by Brihan Maharashtra Mandal at Atlanta (Georgia) was a grand success. This conference was attended by more than 3000 Marathi speaking people along with eminent personalities from India and other countries. Among the several programmes organized during this conference, "Tethe Kar Majhe Julti" was center of attraction.
The purpose of his vocal recitals was to take classical music to the doors of layman and to achieve this he presented Natya-Sangeet, Abhangs and lyrics that are based on classical music. Through this he displayed the wide range of his mastery on the Art. The program turned out to be more interesting with Vivek Chitale's compering. The fete will be remembered for long time by the lovers of classical music. It was a matter of great joy that a set of three audio cassettes brought out by 'Raag Rang' of Portland, in which Rajendra's recitals are recorded, was published by another great vocalist Suresh Wadkar. The inaugural function was part of the Atlanta conference. In addition to this, a CD having Raag Lalat (a morning melody) and Raag Marawa (a dusk time melody) was published in this function. Neelam Audio company of Philadelphia has brought out a CD if Rajendra's rendering of Raagas 'Miya ki Todi' (an early morning melody) and 'Puriya Dhanashree' (an early evening melody).
Mr. Rajendra visited USA and Canada recently from 13th July 2003 to 17th July 2003 and his concerts have been highly appreciated by the audiences there. His CD is very popular among Music Lovers of India, USA and Canada.
